C3 Collaborative: A Case Study in Multi-Organization Nonprofit Website Design

C3 Collaborative is a strategic initiative uniting three regional collaboratives in Pennsylvania (the Bucks-Mont Collaborative, Interagency Council of Norristown, and Tri-County Community Network) to strengthen community impact across Berks, Bucks, Chester, and Montgomery Counties. When C3 approached me, they needed a central digital hub that could speak with one unified voice while honoring the identity of each founding organization, and give their region easy access to shared resources, events, and advocacy work. The result is a clean, content-rich platform that serves as a true collaboration headquarters.
Project Overview:
The primary objective was to create a website that reflects the spirit of collaboration at the heart of C3 while supporting the practical work of three established nonprofits and their shared initiatives. The site needed to house an organization directory, a full events calendar for training and advocacy programming, a resource library, and clear pathways to each partner collaborative. Thoughtful information architecture was essential to keep a content-heavy site approachable for nonprofit staff, community members, and partners alike.
Design Approach:
The design centers on C3's "Community. Collaborate. Connect." message with a calm, professional palette and a video hero of downtown Pottstown that instantly grounds visitors in the region C3 serves. Partner logos are given prominent placement near the top of the homepage to reinforce the shared nature of the initiative. Typography, spacing, and section rhythm were chosen to make a content-heavy site feel light and easy to scan, so visitors can find what they need without friction.
Key Features:
- Organization Directory: A searchable directory connects visitors with nonprofit and community organizations across the region, serving as one of C3's core shared resources.
- Events Calendar and Training Hub: A robust events system supports C3's year-round programming, including Advocacy events and the Training Institute, with filtering by focus area and individual event detail pages for registration and logistics.
- Resource Library: Resources are organized by type, including Newsletters and NonProfit Support, giving visitors a flexible way to browse articles, publications, press conferences, and external partner offerings.
- Collab Labs and Advocacy Pages: Dedicated sections for C3's signature initiatives give each focus area room to breathe and connect with its own audience.
- Partner Cross-Linking: Logos and quick links tie C3 back to its three founding organizations, reinforcing the collaborative model while letting each partner keep their own identity.
- Document Hosting: Key materials like the joint strategic plan are hosted as downloadable PDFs, making long-form content easily accessible.
- Content Management System (CMS): Built on WordPress with Divi, the site gives the C3 team a flexible, easy-to-manage platform for adding events, resources, directory entries, and news as the initiative grows.
- Responsive Design: Fully responsive across desktop, tablet, and mobile, so community members can access C3's resources wherever they are.
Outcome:
The final website gives C3 Collaborative a true hub for coordinated, accessible, and free resources in the region. Visitors can easily explore events, tap into the directory, download strategic materials, and engage with each of the three founding collaboratives, all within a unified experience that reflects the strength of working together.
Conclusion:
The C3 Collaborative project reflects the kind of work I love most: helping mission-driven organizations translate complex, multi-stakeholder missions into clear, usable, beautiful websites. Whether the client is a single nonprofit or a coalition of three, my goal is the same: deliver a site that supports the work, respects the audience, and grows with the organization.
